paprya is not your mother’s shag carpet

July 31st, 2008

Paprya is not your mother’s shag carpet. By Ulf Moritz for Danskina, it is made of 45% paper, 55% wool (for toughness) and then treated with a water-resistant solution.

Its 1.5 inch pile can be vacuumed (which attachment?) and spot cleaned. At $106 a square foot, we’d prefer testing it first.

cleaning the outdoor shower

July 30th, 2008

When it comes to cleaning the outdoor shower, few people maintain theirs as beautifully as the one pictured below. Following several months of use, and without taking the necessary precautions, a slight “funk” can emerge. August arrives on Friday. Why choose to end the summer on a dirty note?

Keeping an outdoor shower clean [...]

for my kids

July 29th, 2008

The For My Kids line of cleaning products was created by a germophobic woman (we have no problem with that) who, after becoming pregnant, totally freaked over the toxic haze created by cleaning chemicals wafting through her home.

While searching for a strong non-toxic cleaner, Christine Stewart learned of the legend known as the Vinegar of [...]

spill coaster, by domesticity

July 28th, 2008

The logic behind the Spill coaster, by domesticity, is so near perfect that Clean+istry can hardly stand it.

This fluid shaped coaster provides a spot to rest your teaspoon. The sculpted surface draws any liquid into the center, ensuring that spillages stay where they belong and away from your precious counter or table’s top. That’s [...]

clean links

July 25th, 2008

This week, we begin a new feature called clean links…links to other things we’ve read of interest over the week. We begin by posting a picture of THE most blogged house of the week.

radon lurking within granite countertops

July 24th, 2008

The New York Times greeted us this morning with ominous warnings about potentially elevated levels of radon lurking within our granite countertops. Great.

Depending on which expert you choose to believe, the risk has either “always been there and it’s no big deal” OR preparing your morning coffee poses identical hazards to a half-pack-a-day cigarette [...]

Electrolux Kitchen Stars goes global

July 24th, 2008

Guess what, the Electrolux Kitchen Stars event, celebrating Electrolux’s 90th birthday, is going global!

Previously we had announced that one’s kitchen must be located somewhere in the European union as a prerequisite to entry. But now we can ALL join in the fun. The only things necessary to apply are: a) an Electrolux appliance (located in [...]

cyber clean

July 24th, 2008

Cyber Clean is a Swiss compound (a combo of viscosity and elasticity) that sinks into the crevices of your computer’s keyboard, capturing dirt, germs and yesterday’s lunch.

Lest you think we have strayed too far from Clean+istry’s core mission, did you know the average computer keyboard has been proven to accumulate more germs than a public [...]

style and substance

July 22nd, 2008

Method’s success flows from a near flawless balance of style and substance. Josh Spear interviews Danny Alexander, one of the industrial designers responsible for giving Method products (including the toilet bowl cleaner pictured) their impossible-to-resist “counter” appeal.

Although we’ve had our issues with Method’s disclosure of ingredients in the past (they have improved [...]
